Kalnmuižas pils

We had a peaceful stay in the main house. The room (facing the orchard) was spacious and the windows were perfect for enjoying the sky throughout the summer “night”. The food (dinner and breakfast) were excellent. You could walk the grounds (we didn’t much). This is a perfect place for reading a book, sketching, or open-air watercolor painting. I think they often host events, but when we stayed it was very quiet. We visited the Pedvale Open Air Museum nearby; nice sculptures! Would definitely stay at Kalnmuižas Pils again.

We had a wonderful one-night stay and really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The property is beautifully renovated and located in a stunning countryside setting with lovely views and a charming garden. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and having a private sauna and jacuzzi made the stay extra special. The restaurant exceeded our expectations. The food was of excellent quality, beautifully presented, reasonably priced, and the staff provided outstanding service. Breakfast also was 11/10. Communication throughout our stay was smooth, and everyone was welcoming and professional. We would happily return.

Only a few minor details prevented this from being a perfect stay. There was no minibar or small fridge to keep drinks cold, which would have been convenient. We also noticed that some details of the room cleaning could be improved, as we found a clipped fingernail on the table and the toilet brush was not in the best condition. The bathroom had a jacuzzi but no separate shower, and the shower hose attached to the jacuzzi was quite short, making it a little inconvenient for a quick morning shower. These were relatively small issues that did not impact our overall impression.

The breakfast is excellent and adds value (as well as additional point for this review), but it does not offset the neglected condition of our room, as at the current price level, the experience falls well below expectations.

The “family room” in a separate building outside the main hotel needed much more care: no kettle, only one of four nightlights working (two bulbs missing), a flickering main bulb, and cracks in the walls. More serious were safety issues—the backyard door could not be locked, main room entrance door was impossible to lock from inside also, and a missing terrace element was only marked with tape making the room unsuitable for small children despite the “family” label. Sadly. As the location is beautiful...
