Hostería del Monasterio de San Millan

The building is absolutely beautiful, old monastery at the start of the mountains. The room have a "castle" feel to them considering the lighting and the decor.

No kettle or coffee making in the rooms, no AC can be quite hot in summer

Amazing location, English spoken, wonderful breakfast, plenty of free parking and a reasonable bar. Room fridge and a welcome bottle of Cava delivered to our room on arrival. We also received a complimentary bottle of local wine. Nice spacious bathroom with a long bath. Although cool at night on 12th August, we requested a floor mounted fan for the afternoon heat. Would look forward to staying there again, maybe for local walks and cycling. We went for the solar eclipse, and a visibility map was on the front desk, thank goodness for that thought, it helped me enormously.

No air conditioning, though fans are available. Part of the internal staircase has the hand rail missing, it used to be there, mounting holes visible. Needs to be fixed. Cocktails ( Aperol Spritz) are not available at the bar.

The location and of course the monastery were amazing and worth the trip , however the hotel needs a great deal of management . The rooms are very basic without the simplest of facilities . One expects that to some extent in a former monastery , but this is a bit extreme for the price and star rating . The hotel is not clean we had to demand the cleaning of carpets outside our room on arrival and the garden area is tatty , dirty and under furnished for the number of guests . The bar area is similarly a bit depressing . The only upside is the restaurant which was good if a bit overpriced . Breakfast was good .

Everything ! in particular the attitude of staff which was awful . Completely unhelpful and surly . We asked about the visit to the monastery and were told it was at 10 am . However it was at 10.30 and you are required to buy tickets along with the general public at the ticket office . None of that info was given . This place could be fantastic , but desperately needs new management and cleaners . The visit to the monastery was wonderful .
