Casaforte Alba In Langa

There were a lot of things to like about our stay at Casaforte. First and foremost, was our hostess (and her daughter). She was knowledgeable, (about the area, about the history of her hotel and even about the unpredictable behavior of teenagers), friendly, and spoke very understandable, charming English. Secondly, the hotel itself was warm, welcoming and eclectically decorated. The mix between old and new brought out coziness and charm without being overwhelming or 'dusty'. The pictures here honestly don't do it justice. The bathrooms and windows were also modern which added to our comfort. It also had a few historical surprises which our hostess was also glad to share with us. I will leave those to her to share with you during your stay :). Make sure to ask about them because they even interested our teenager. Finally, the town of Mango was also a surprise. It is a fairly typical, small Italian village. It was not touristy and there certainly weren't the attractions of Alba or Asti, but it was well maintained with some very endearing small details that one had to search to find. The hazelnut cream, made in the manufactory close by, is also very tasty and available in the local butcher shop.

While I found Mango charming and subtly attractive, there were no restaurants to speak of within the village. We ate very well, of course, it being Piedmont (and with the excellent advice from our hostess), but we had to drive to the restaurants. They were still close (no more than a 10 minute drive), but the walk would have been a bit hilly and adventurous along the windy, Italian roads with no sidewalks.
