Athineon Hotel

The hotel is generally very good however we experienced a really regrettable incident with booking.com We paid for our hotel in full , including all taxes, before arrival per the agreement with booking.com. On arrival at the hotel we were advised that booking.com had not paid the hotel. We were then told that we had to pay a 140 euro tax, which we had already paid, directly to the hotel. It was an extremely uncomforable situation. We contacted booking.com immediately. They initially lied to us and told us that the 140 was a separate charge. However I reviewed my receipts and established that that was a lie and eventually booking.com accepted it. We have now been on a 2 week ping ping match with them, trying to secure a refund. They are impossible to deal with. They have now given me 140 credit which I can only use for something on booking.com , which is useless to me because I want to close my account because of this incident and their data breach earlier in the year, where my contact details were obtained by criminals who have attempted to defraud me more than once.

Booking.com My advice is that this hotel is really nice, but to not book it, or potentially any hotel in Greece with booking.com

Location very good and breakfast was excellent. Pool quite small but adequate. Not much atmosphere in bar in the evenings. Everything is comfortable enough but something was lacking.

Really lovely staff, they are a credit to the hotel and really looked after everyone and always with a smile. Especially Debbie and Dimitrius. Room was spotlessly clean and bed very comfortable. Nice bar area and pool - the pool is not deep but you can swim. Lots of seating options, shade and sun. Although breakfast was the same most days it was good. Only exception was orange juice is artificial not real, but a very minor item to consider improving. Food ordered at the bar - lunch and dinner available was excellent and not expensive. Could not fault. So many guests have been returning customers for years and were greeted like family which says something. 5 min walk to the old town. Very close to the port. Great value for money

If you have a room at the front then there is some road noise if you sit outside on your balcony. But you get nice evening sun. The main Elli beach is approx 30 minutes walk and bus and taxi is limited. Ditto the bus station. You can swim at tiny beach nearby but no amenities and not very attractive/clean. Air conditioning was very effective but was a little noisy. Just reflects age of the property though.

Good location with nice pool area. Apartments were basic but sufficient.

Breakfast was in my opinion poor & there were too many flies all over the buffet - nothing was covered - eg the fruit on offer was peeled/chopped & attracting flies.
