Basically ok, but the host rarely replied to my messages.
I had to message him three times about a door handle that could lock us out of the bedroom. Other messages were also unanswered. Both thru VRBO and text.
He did not bother to give me a rating.

This is the quintessential Laguna beach cottage. We had an amazing three nights here living the dream. Just a short walk to Thousand Steps beach which we visited each day. Also loved spending time in the back garden that felt like an extension of the house. Private with loads of charm, character, and beautiful views. Communication with the host was excellent. We’ll be back!

This is a gem of a property! Located at the top of a hill, this historic cottage was perfect for my wife and I. The area is heavily residential, but you almost wouldn’t know it because of the steep landscapes and the abundant foliage. Despite the trees and bushes, the cottage has a view of the ocean from it’s kitchen deck!
The bed was comfortable, there was ample space in the living room areas, and the kitchen was nicely outfitted.
I am amazed what a nice job the owners have done in modernizing the amenities while keeping the charm of an old cottage. To us, it was a perfect balance!
We can’t wait to return and hope we will be able to book it again!!

Best VRBO we have stayed in, yet. Gary did an amazing job with this house. We especially liked spending time in the gorgeous garden patio area. The house was equipped with everything we could possibly need.

The property is quiet and located in walking distance to the beach. We especially enjoy the small porch off the kitchen. It has the best view of the ocean and we watched sunsets from there. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. This is a great place if you want a peaceful getaway near the beach.

The property is very nice and Gary was very responsive. I definitely suggest taking the trolley as parking is difficult downtown. It's a short walk to the closest station.
If you are arriving late in the evening, request that the fans are on and the windows opened, so the cool evening air cools the house. That was a very minor inconvenience, however, when we arrived late the first night and did not know there was no air conditioning (which really is not needed, you just need to keep the fans on and the windows opened by early evening.)
The washer and dryer are nice and the beach chairs and umbrella are a plus.

We had a wonderful time in Laguna! The cottage was perfect for me and my friend. The view is amazing, lovely garden, outdoor shower, great neighborhood & location, quick response, and the fans were much appreciated! It was a great week away :-) Can't wait to go back :-)

I would definitely rent again! We were here for the art festival and pageant so the proximity to the trolleys was a definite plus. We spent more time outside than in and loved the inviting patios.

I have stayed here before and I just love the neighborhood. Friendly neighbors, easy access to several beaches, trolley is just blocks away and I love having laundry onsite.

My husband and I as well as our three adult children stayed at the cottage in South Laguna Beach. It was exactly as we had hoped in every way. It was perfectly sized especially given the extra space that the beautiful garden and balconies allow for enjoying peaceful morning coffee, relaxing in the shade, taking in the sun, or watching the sun set. It was perfectly located for walking access to Thousand Steps Beach and short driving access to hiking trails. The location also splits the driving distance between LA and San Diego. While we rented a car for the week and relied on that as primary transportation, we accessed the trolley system one day to/through Laguna and points south to Dana Point and San Clemente easily. I would highly recommend a stay at this cottage. It is a relaxing oasis in and of itself and provides a perfect retreat after a busy day of beach time and sight-seeing.

I’m an author (The Aquamarine Surfboard, 2022). Though I had family visit briefly, most of the time I was happily writing in the cottage,,the garden, or the sweet patio with the perfect keyhole view.
I loved my “stretch breaks”, the hikes down the hill and stairs to stunning Thousand Steps Beach. My first (and second) books are inspired by Laguna… and the magic I find in writing by the sea!

My wife and I spent a week relaxing at Gary & Nadia's South Laguna Beach cottage. This was our first getaway vacation since the pandemic, and we could not have been happier with our choice. The cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood and has stunning ocean views.
The kitchen is equipped with just about everything you would need to prepare your own meals, although we limited our kitchen use to breakfasts and takeout lunches so that we could sample the local restaurants in the evenings. When the weather is nice there is a table for two with an ocean view on the small deck just outside the kitchen. Our only complaint: Most of the nonstick cookware is pretty scratched up and in need of being replaced.
The living room has comfortable furniture and an entertainment center with cable TV and a DVD player with a nice selection of movies. For music, there are cable channels as well as Pandora.
A sliding door in the large bedroom leads to another deck with an ocean view.
The garden area is meticulously maintained with tables, chairs, and plenty of shade. There is even an outdoor shower for rinsing off the sand.
The bathroom is small but adequate, with a small sink/vanity and a tub/shower. The mirror above the sink is actually a medicine cabinet with shelves for stashing personal items.
A washer and dryer are located in the garage. There is a little bit of rust on the washer, but it is easy to avoid. Laundry soap, softener, and bleach are all provided.

We loved our stay in South Laguna - the property is clean and quiet, with a beautiful garden outside and everything you’d need for a cozy and relaxing stay inside. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well-stocked and has the best kitchen window view I’ve seen in a long time, and the beach is just a short walk away (having beach towels provided is a plus). We received a recommendation for this property from a friend and are grateful that we did - this is a place we’d definitely recommend to others, and we would love to come back sometime!

This house was a good size for our family of three. The neighborhood is very nie and quiet and we loved the quick walk to our favorite beach - Thousand Steps. It's the most pristine beach in Laguna outside of Crystal Cove. I highly recommend this house as it was quaint and clean. The side garden has many areas sunny and shady to sit and the outdoor shower is a great help. But there are a few things that would have made the stay more comfortable. The washing machine is extremely useful but is very rusty where the clothes go in, causing some things to get rust marks. It might be time to replace this washer. The kitchen sink stoppers are not together and seem to be missing washers and are moldy along with the stopper for the tub. But I get that these houses for rent get a lot of wear and tear.

This cottage was great to escape the crowds and traffic of Laguna. South Laguna has a smaller more intimate feel to it.
The place while cozy, had a huge (for Laguna) patio, outdoor area. Ocean views from the deck and kitchen provided a place to watch sunsets.
While an older cottage the ammenaties were plenty and the beds comfortable.
Gary was very responsive to questions as well.

The home is very nice, exactly like photos. Location is great, unfortunately we didn’t have great weather(tons of rain) so we didn’t get to do as much as we’d have liked. But we made the best of it and our hosts were great! Very responsive and helpful! We’d definitely come back if we’re in the area!

A perfect place for my family to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. The property was amazing , well-equipped and views of the ocean from the private decks. The hosts were great. They were easy to communicate with and helped me plan some surprises at the house for my husband when we arrived. We are just sad we couldn’t stay longer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in South Laguna. We were there for a wedding, so we did not spend a huge amount of time at the property.
Our favorite aspect of the property was the outdoor space. It is a peaceful sanctuary to enjoy your morning coffee. And, the beautiful windows in the kitchen made doing dishes a pleasure!

We absolutely loved this charming house. The terraced yard and balcony were delightful places to hang out. The house itself was very comfortable. The location is south of the busier part of Laguna beach- basically a 10 minute drive into “town”. A great experience we’d do again!

Location, location, location! This is a lovely small home, in a quiet neighborhood, in the southern part of Laguna Beach. It is away from the hussle and bustle and traffic of downtown.
What a haven with the garden and outdoor seating. We ate our lunch and dinner meals outside in the garden. I enjoyed eating breakfast on the deck off the kitchen. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking in rather than dining out all the time. The beds were very comfortable as were the rest of the rest of the furnishings. We appreciated the beach chairs, and umbrellas, as well as the washer and dryer. The proximity to the many beaches was such a bonus! I hope to book this property again in the future. Gary was very responsive to questions I had during our stay. The property is as described and represented in the photos, but the peace that is experienced there is something that no photo can capture. It was wonderful.

The house has its own charm; it is nice to do the kitchen work while watching the sunset.

We had a lovely time at Gary's beach cottage. The cottage itself was comfortable and well appointed with all the needs to settle in for a long weekend. We absolutely loved the yard, having multiple terraces and sitting areas. We bbq'd and enjoyed the sunsets from it. The main draw for us was the location. It's just down the hill from 1000 Steps Beach, which is stunning. Also, just down the street is trail access to great hiking trails. We certainly look forward to visiting Gary's home again!
