Proprietor was very friendly & chatty, and told us about the canal walk into town, which we enjoyed. Our seven-year-old was very impressed by the yoghurts at breakfast. The place is comfortable in a homely way, as we hoped it would be. We chose this place because we thought it would have more character than a chain hotel, and it satisfied on that score. We stayed here overnight because I wanted to take my wife & son to White Scar Cave, which is quite an easy drive from here.
There's nothing we'd consider warrants complaint. The bathroom basin is small and the waste was a bit blocked, but then we weren't there long enough to get them to unblock it. Also the bathroom extractor fan wasn't working, but the proprietor explained that that was the result of a wasps' nest they'd just removed from it, which can't really be helped. The house is on the main route into town which is quite noisy, but we'd just travelled up from the south coast, so we were too tired to care; we were prioritising convenience of location.

Loved the property! Very nicely done up, cozy and homely! The lounge area was very nice and cozy and the library was well stocked. The breakfast area was also nice and functional with a minimal but decent breakfast spread.
Nothing, liked everything about it.

Great location, friendly welcome, biscuits (!!!)
Lots of stairs, a bit dated but it’s to be expected for the price
