This home was exactly what we were looking for! It was exceptionally clean and the kitchen was stocked very well. We enjoyed our coffee in the mornings out on the patio, listening to the waves. Each guest bedroom has their own AC controls which was A HUGE BONUS! The owners have thought of everything including beach towels and chairs! What a beautiful home and we will comeBack!

We enjoyed our stay at the beach front home with the ocean at your doorstep. We were able to enjoy various water activities in our own private space. As others have mentioned, there are rocks in the water, but we wore water shoes, which we needed in most of Kauai. It was easy to rinse the shoes outside and leave them to dry.The inside accomodations were roomy for 3 couples and the lanai was a comfortable spot to spend the evening and avoid the sun at it's peak. I would absolutely recommend this property.

Property needs to be cleaned throughly inside and outside. All the windows and screens were cakeda ml with dust and dirty. The ceiling fans are all completely dirty, left over food was found between the couch and Coffee table. Towels were wet and folded nicely. The location is beautiful and views of the ocean amazing. I questioned why almost everything outside was chained and locked outside and every window had wooden dowels until someone came onto the property and stole personal belongings from the backyard and tossed the ladder that was leaning against a palm tree into the bushes near by and anything not chained together. There is a homeless camp a few houses down to the left and a large homeless camp on Anahola bay beach to the right, Read the reviews of that beach. The management offered to have the house cleaned but I prefer to check into somewhere clean before I arrive and not have to have it cleaned while I’m there. After notifying them of things going missing and things being tossed about in the backyard, They suggested I use all the window dowels at night to be safe... and to make a police report. Not something you want to do while on vacation. I cannot recommend this location my wife was scared to leave, worried about sleeping at night. If things weren’t stolen, the house was cleaned, and homeless camps weren’t on either side I would stay again.

My family loved this home! From the unique furnishings to the spacious bedrooms to the well-appointed kitchen. The Beach accessories included snorkel equipment, beach towels, beach chairs - just about anything you could want. And the location was hard to beat. Direct access to a nice beach with lots of rocks as well for exploring the tidepools.

This house is exactly as shown on the website. If you are looking for quiet, this is where you want to be, it's not a tourist town, it's a quiet residential neighborhood. The kitchen had everything you need to cook, the rooms are air conditioned for sleeping. The beach is very private and it's a great walking beach, the ocean is a bit rocky in front of the house but you can find some sandy spots to go in and most of the time there was hardly anyone on the beach. We would absolutely stay here again.

The house is the perfect location if you want a quiet beach. The outside patio is the best spot to have a glass of wine during a quick rain. We had a beautiful time here and really enjoyed it. The location makes it easy to get to bigger towns but still away enough it didn’t feel crowded.

The property and location are perfect. The house has everything you need and more. The communication with the property management company is smooth and very responsive. The office checked in halfway through our visit to ask how things were going; we have never experienced that communication with any company previously. We plan to return to this property.

Views and access to the beach were excellent. House amenities were good as well (though did not have a stock of snorkels, floaters and such like many other VRBO homes)
Unfortunately the house had a lingering bad odor which cannot be ignored. Had hoped to enjoy the house along with ‘private’ beach access but had to get out to avoid the smell.

We stayed for just about a week and the whole experience was magical. Being able to walk to the beach right from the back door without even needing to put shoes on was a real treat and my kids loved getting to search for geckos in the gorgeous yard.
The house itself is lovely, spacious, and very clean. The kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms are updated, it is overall just a lovely home. The property managers are responsive and helpful and the whole check-in process is a breeze.
We will definitely be back here!

This place was exactly what we were looking for, to be away from resorts and crowds. We walked and/or swam the beach/bay every day and rarely saw anyone else. The rental is beautiful and had tons of beach towels, which is the only extra we were looking for. It does have AC in the bedrooms but we didn't need it.

The kitchen is setup will anything you might need and the BBQ was an added bonus.My only negative would be the beds. All of them could use an upgrade. We had a few hiccups and reached out to the property managers and they were resolved right away. The communication is prompt and positive.

We had a glorious and peaceful 5 days in this beautiful bungalow on the beach. We had had to cancel in May so this was a late honeymoon and First wedding Anniversary trip for us and Garden Island worked with us for the new dates. We could not have asked for a better place to vacation with out of town guests. Very clean and comfortable, right on the beach, centrally located between Kapaa Town and Princeville/North Shore, with all the amenities you would need for a relaxing Hawaiian vacation. The beach gear (chairs, umbrella, beach towels, cooler) came in very handy and we enjoyed bbqing on the grill out back, lounging in the backyard overlooking the ocean, having meals or coffee on the back lanai, morning walks down the road and on the beach. Do not look any further, this property will not disappoint and is a new family favorite. We will be back!

This place is great and I loved staying here. The home is very clean and cozy. The beach is so close but be careful with the ocean, it's very strong. the shore is sandy but after that the entire area is rocky, so wear water shoes. Recommend booking directly from website with Garden Island Properties. It is user friendly and save a little bit of money then using Airbnb or VRBO. Plus the the company is responsive and has been in business for along time.

We stayed here for one week while in Kauai and loved every minute of it. The house is as advertised...literally steps to the beach. The clean beach front home had a fully equipped kitchen along with some cooking spices. The house was well supplied with bedding, towels, shampoo, beach chairs and cooler. The washer and dryer were a bonus. It was a great location to explore the center to the north of the island. The check in/ check out procedures were very detailed and easy to follow and any questions were answered in a timely manner. The best part of this house was being able to walk outside your back door to an almost private beach for daily sunrises, long walks and watching ghost crabs. At first we were concerned about the a/c only available in the bedrooms, but found that using the dehumidifier and leaving the windows closed in the main part of the house on humid days to be comfortable. We enjoyed the non touristy area, the natural beauty, the trails, the neighbors and smoothies at Moala Sunrise Juice Bar. We would highly recommend

This house is nothing short of AMAZING! The owners thought of everything to make our stay perfect!
The kitchen was perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need and the house was spotlessly clean.
Our own slice of paradise on an island that is truly beautiful. The sunrises, moonrises and our own little beach for a week were the icing on the cake.
We would definitely stay here again!

My mom is ill and I'm embarrassed to say she has been wanting to go to Kauai for over 30 years! It's taken us way too long to grant her wish. My parents are too old to travel alone so my husband and I finally took the time. She told me she wanted to stay in a house! So this is what we picked. It was absolutely amazing! Picturesque views and the beach was right in our backyard. They loved every minute of it!! Thank you for allowing us to share your beautiful home. I can't wait to go back!!

This was the perfect rental! The house was clean, well maintained & in the PERFECT location!
Pictures do not do Hale Makai justice! We were only steps away from the beach. The property is completely secluded by the lush landscape & trees, which also made great shade while relaxing in the Adirondack chairs or hammock. We had a sandy beach just steps below the small hill. My parents are in their 70’s & had no problems getting down to the water. There was a reef surrounding the area which made for calm waves & easy swimming & snorkeling .
The location is the best. We were only about 20 minutes from the nearest town, but had the privacy that made us feel as if we had Kauai all to ourselves. The house was well kept, clean & roomy. It was truly paradise found! We loved our stay there & will never forget it!

We are long time vacation renters with Garden island Properties, usually in Kapaa. This was our 1st time at this property and it surely won't be our last! It is a lovely home in the most beautiful, private setting. The amenities are great and the sight and sounds a bit of heaven on earth. Being able to walk on a quiet beach, eat all our meals sitting on lanai while watching the sun rise, moon rise and then be able to hop on the car and head North or 10 minutes to town for a bit of shopping. Already planning our next trip!

Hale Makai was the PERFECT home away from home for our family of 4. We had never been to Kauai and wanted to stay somewhere that had easy access to both the North and South beach areas.
