Hotel Alexandar II

Great location for exploring Skopje, with plenty within easy walking distance. The hotel was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was fresh with a good selection.

The hotel was a little difficult to find when we first arrived, as there isn’t a dedicated kerbside area or obvious place to stop and unload luggage.

The Reception staff were extremely helpful, professional and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Special shout out for Marina from Housekeeping, who noticed it was our wedding anniversary and took the time to leave us some beautiful towel art ❤️ Breakfast was lovely and varied, and constantly topped up to ensure there was a full selection, even for the later guests 😋 The location is perfect, just a short stroll into Alexander Square ☺️

There was nothing to dislike.

The hotel is very well located in the city center, just a few steps away from the main attractions. The room was spacious enough and well equipped, with a fridge and a kettle, as well as complimentary tea and coffee. It was also very well insulated. The room was cleaned quickly every morning. Breakfast was really good as well.

The main issue is that this hotel is not good value for money for Skopje. The pictures make it look like a very classy and modern hotel, but this is not the reality—and it is definitely not a 4-star hotel in my opinion. For €70 per night in Skopje, you can find much better value for money. The entrance is not very welcoming and is quite dark, while the lights in the bar/cafeteria were turned off during our stay. People smoke in a room next to the breakfast area, so you have to eat while smelling cigarette smoke. The room was run-down, with a broken curtain (see pictures). The double bed was actually made up of two single mattresses pushed together, and it was not comfortable. The bed linens were also shorter than the mattress, making the bed uncomfortable for two people. In the bathroom, the shower leaks water and floods the floor. Even worse, the roof also leaks when it rains outside. Overall, the hotel needs significant maintenance and does not live up to the impression given by its pictures or its 4-star rating.
