A poorly run apartment (rather "run down") with a lot of potential
The apartment itself, if properly taken care of, would be quite nice, with the balcony to have a relaxing breakfast. It is also conveniently located: not far away from the center but with access to interesting restaurants nearby.
Many things. To start with, the instructions for the access were sent in Polish, and so when translated with AI, it omitted the first "key symbol" from the front door and so we were clueless as to how to get in. If you read this, don't make the same mistake and press "key symbol" BEFORE and AFTER you enter the code. The surprise, however, came after we managed to enter by pure luck. The lock box combination we were given was wrong! I tried many times because I couldn't believe I was sent the wrong number, we even enlisted the help of the receptionist to no avail. So I e-mailed the owner, he didn't reply and I ended up calling him at almost 2 AM. Yes, it was a late flight and we were tired. Luckily he answered and gave us another code, otherwise we would have slept on the street. But the stress and tiredness from this situation ruined our initial experience.
And then came the other nasty surprise: the fridge didn't work! The double whammy of wrong key combination + non-working fridge is a first for me. Not only it didn't work, it was also emanating a foul smell and there was even a mosquito inside, apart from having rests of food and other filth. I'm not sure how long the fridge had been in this condition, but considering how the rest of the house is being taking care of, it seems as if there is almost no maintenance, and for an apartment of this price, this is quite disappointing. In the end the owner brought us a mini-fridge... that didn't work either! He dropped some freezing bags and that was it. I know a fridge cannot be repaired on the spot, but he's still to blame, since he should have made sure something as essential as a fridge was working before our arrival. We had to give up our hopes to cook for ourselves and eventually eat out every day. If I had known, I would have booked a hotel because there was no point for us to have an apartment with these limitations.
