Abira Town is also a hidden gem in Hokkaido—a breeding ground for thoroughbreds and the birthplace of legendary horses like Deep Impact and Almond Eye. In spring, it transforms into a breathtaking landscape of yellow fields covered in rapeseed blossoms.
Furthermore, as a railroad town, it was a hub where steam locomotives remained in service longer than anywhere else in Japan, and traces of that history still remain today at the “Roadside Station Abira D51 Station.”
