Hydrangea House Inn

A very attractive victorian property on Bellevue Avenue that runs parallel to Thames street and the Wharves; walking distance to restaurants, bars, shops and the waterfront. A longer walk to the mansions but nonetheless, easy reach of most sightseeing places and a real advantage to be offering parking which is valuable in Newport. The room was clean, spacious and well decorated. Breakfast appears to be a highlight based on other reviews and this is served in a grand and well presented dining area. Also loved the charcuterie, cheese and wine provided in the the afternoon around 4 til 6pm.

We were not keen on the breakfast but this could well be down to our taste. Everyone at the table liked the french toast. I found the bacon fatty and not crisp. We advised the property in advance that one of us could not eat cheese but the omelette came with cheese and the change was handled impatiently. The decoration is dark, which I appreciate is reflective of the era that it represents and some areas did not appear clean and tidy; particularly towards the back of the property.

The place was ;tired'. Did not feel very homely. Staff were a little off-hand. Images on the marketing advertisement did not project the reality of the place
