Canalview Hotel Ter Reien

the place itself has an amazing location. We had a canal side view, which was absolutely lovely. I think we got lucky with our room and huge windows :) we kept waving a tourists passing by. The place is quiet at night, and because we were thereon the weekend, we were not bothered by constructions.

Before even getting to the property, I was getting emails every day saying that "I should pay the outstanding balance", but I have paid through booking the full amount already. Because the reception is also working only a few hours a day it was hard to get in touch and nobody would respond to emails and booking messages. My anxiety did not enjoy that and I thought we will loose the room.

Beautiful location next to the canal. Our room had a great view. Walking distance to the city centre. Good generous breakfast and friendly staff.

Hotel location is ideal for being a short walking distance outside the main areas.

Self check in details were not received prior to arrival. I arrived just over an hour early, nobody to answer the intercom, eventually buzzed in but not greeted. Saw my name on a drawer with self check in details but no key. Woman with not good English told me it was early and could not check in. I asked where i could wait or leave my bag, her answer was not very clear and she did not take me to relevant areas. Room absolutely smelled of sweaty socks! Awful. It faced a painted terracotta brick wall of the courtyard. and when other guests returned late evening/early morning or sat outside the noise echoes. Bathroom was so small that a person being over 6ft, or weighing more than 12 stone would struggle. Doors to the bathroom had wooden batons for door handles and were like glass salon doors. Dirty plastic cups in bathroom, dirty flooring in main room. The bed creaked on every body movement. Website says about building work being carried out, although signs of repairs being undertaken, never saw or heard any workmen, so not sure how long this upgrade will take. No clear signs for upper rooms, had to knock and ask another guest on the ground floor for help as no staff around. Breakfast room - only table available was in front of opened sliding doors - so was cold! The images on the web page DOES NOT give an accurate image of the hotel. Lighting has played a very good part!
