Friendly and welcoming staff throughout. Airy rooms, super comfy beds. Fabulous breakfast. Overall, great ambience to the property.

The service was excellent, very attentive and caring staff from start to finish. Lovely little details like the complimentary bear given to guests, bowls of fresh apples on offer. The location was easy walking distance to all the key city highlights of Christchurch.

We stayed in room 206, which was directly beside a stairwell and the elevators. We all had a very bad nights sleep. Constant noise.

Most of the staff were polite, professional and helpful. The receptionist was extremely helpful, welcoming and polite, the head waiter at the restaurant was professional and correct. If the property had been properly maintained, the room would have been very comfortable - large bed with great bedding and comfy (single!) mattress and large bathroom. The bathroom product were high quality and did the job well, there was a toothbrush, shaver, shampoo body wash and conditioner, a vanity set and body lotion - all what you expect of 5-star. The lobby is lovely.

We were treating ourselves to a bit of luxury after a hike for our anniversary. This hotel is not living up to the standard expected of the small luxury hotels of the world group. What an absolute rip-off. It’s simply not 5 star and not worth the money. For 5 star in New Zealand, you are paying for a level of service where ‘staff anticipate your needs’ we were left to wrangle our own baggage until a surly staff member suggested he use the trolley, once we were at reception. Then the room itself is looking tired - furniture was scuffed, and chipped, doors were misaligned, the bed was made up of two singles pushed together, so there is a crack in the mattress, the vanity light did not work properly (at first not at all, then it flickered into action); but worst of all there was a chip out of the ceiling above the bed looking like it was about to fall on our heads, mould in the bathroom and the tiles were not properly cleaned. In addition, the restaurant food is sub-par, although the staff were great at accommodating my needs, little things like refilling the water simply didn’t happen. Again, you simply are not getting what you pay for.
