Park Hotel Villa Grazioli

The villa itself is a real pleasure to stay in, and the gardens are beautifully kept. The reception staff were very friendly, and it was a pleasure chatting with them about the history of the villa. During our three nights there were two weddings and a company event, yet none of it disturbed us at all; we even drove in right in the middle of a cake cutting, which gave us a good laugh. The location is ideal, close to many of the surrounding towns and villages, making it a great base for exploring the area.

Dinner in the in-house restaurant was disappointing; nothing we ordered matched the pictures on the website. Breakfast was poor for a four-star hotel. Both breakfast and dinner were served in internal rooms with no windows, when it would be far more pleasant to use the next room with windows opening onto the outside. The outbuildings would benefit from a refurbishment of the electrics.

We love this place. The beautiful house is an Italian national monument with cool and relaxed communal public areas in which to escape the sweltering sun. The extensive grounds include a shady picnic area and a pool with a bar - along with amusing 'tree art'. The wide-ranging breakfast buffet is superb, while the restaurant is excellent and by UK standards is a steal. If you're looking for authentic street life, the courtesy shuttle bus is available to take you to explore nearby Frascati or to the train station to travel to Rome or further afield.

Not much to dislike and it might just qualify as the perfect hotel if the comfortable but snug rooms were slightly larger (unlikely, given the age and configuration of the buildings). The only other thing is the somewhat baffling absence of a bar in the main building.

Fantastic location on a hill outside Rome with views of the whole valley; gorgeous grounds with beautiful trees and lawns; breakfast included a great selection of pastries and hot items. We wish we had arrived a bit earlier to enjoy the pool area which closed at 8 pm. Concierge recommended a restaurant in Frascati that was fantastic. Cantina Bonasera.

The pool area was only open from 10 am to 8 pm so we didn’t have a chance to use the pool.
