Esperides Resort Crete, The Authentic Experience

We particularly enjoyed the breakfast (especially the pancakes!) and the private pool in our room. The staff were also lovely, especially the cleaning staff. The room comes with bathrobes and slippers. Towels and sheets were changed every day, which we really liked. The room was quiet - nothing coming through from the other rooms.

We don’t think the hotel represents an actual 5 stars facility. The buffet surely has room for improvement, with better quality of food and options. In our room, the mini fridge was very loud all day and night long, which kept us up at night. The finishes of the room and the bathroom were not those of a 5 stars hotel. There isn’t much around the facility, with mostly only a small supermarket with few and expensive items.

The hotel looks good overall, and the service was nice. The breakfast and dinner were acceptable, but they were very similar and rotated week to week. We always got a sunbed by the kids' pool, and the pool bar was nice. Overall, a good stay for the value.

The location is quite far from everything, so staying for over 10 days got repetitive. The first room we got was in the shade, so we didn't use it. We later upgraded to another room with a larger pool and sun in the early day. The valet service is rather strange. If you are a coffee person, the coffee in the morning buffet is 1/5 stars.

The staff is 5 star resort, 100%, the grounds are well cared for but the accommodation itself is not.

We had a room with a jacuzzi and when we arrived we couldn’t use it because it was still filling and warming up and less than 25degrees. This took more than a day. (The room was free the days before we arrived so they should have started earlier). During our stay apparently there was something wrong and they needed to redo the jacuzzi again (no communication) but from the 10 days we couldn’t use it 3 days. The pool also was out of order, which can happen but that was also 2 days. When we arrived there was a big beehive in the lounge bed outside, which makes it clear nobody cleaned it. The floor outside was also really dirty. There was not just a bit of sand but real mud. It had rained really bad 3 days before our arrival but clearly nobody thought of cleaning the outside floor. furthermore are the doors and ceilings so low, if you’re 180cm and up you will hit your head against ceilings and lamps constantly. Also the equipment in the room is broken or of really cheap quality. Like the water heater, when it’s hot you can’t touch it. I mean the handle. So you can’t poor a cup or tea. You need at least 2 towels to hold it. There is an ironing device but it’s leaking so bad and it’s leaking rust. The elevator of the resort wasn’t working and also not getting fixed. We had booked sea view but had no sea view. We booked a baby crib but when we arrived it wasn’t there. So we had a baby but we had a room only accessible via stairs, a pain in the ash. Also the electricity went out for about 3 hours. Which can also happen but it was a lot for this amount of money.
