Leviathan Hotel

We chose this hotel for its proximity to the railway station. We were booked on the Taieri Gorge train the following day. The hotel kindly let us leave our car in their carpark until our return. When we booked the only available accommodation offered for our family of 5 was 2 rooms with 3 single beds in each but when we got to the hotel the kind man at reception said due to renovations we were upgraded to 2 rooms with a double and 2 singles in each. This suited us perfectly as it turned out to have an adjoining door connecting the rooms. The big disappointment was that we had no ‘ghostly’ encounters.

The room was in need of some TLC but this is a big hotel and reno’s take time.

Perfect location with a five minute walk into the centre of town. The room was adequate and the bed was comfortable.

One power point was quite loose and had switches that were difficult to turn on and off. It may have been a slight electrical hazard.

The standard room (133) on the corner was massive. .Large windows. I love the old style of this heritage building. The free carpark was very handy. Had to rearrange the couches to make it feel more like a lounge than a waiting room, but left it as we found it. The reception was staffed 24/7.

The large room felt a little sparse. Only one power point in the kitchenette. Have to unplug appliance to use another.

Good location. Parking across the road. Good price

Moderately clean, very cold - only a small noisy fan heater in the room, very thin duvet on the bed, very musty smelling bedspread, only one side of electric blanket worked on double bed, wooden door to fridge was broken, hinge falling off, light switch in bathroom loose, was rudely rushed out of my room by housekeepers at 9.58am - I was about to leave but thought they were quite rude.
