Ambong Ambong Rain Forest Retreat Located on either side of the road leaving Cenang southwards, you will be guaranteed cheeky monkeys (stole our breakfast in Pegaga Restaurant the first morning) and gentler ones, hornbills and drongos, geckosand a snake … and a lot of steps. They offer an as complementary workout option as Yoga classes with Ms Lim and Ms „Here“, who did a remarkable job getting us going at 8 a.m. Service staff did everything to make our experience the best, offered rides back and forth between the forest studio/Pegaga (left hand side, coming from Cenang)and the pool villa/Rimba part and have to be highlighted as elementary to our pleasant stay. Breakfast in Pegaga is vegetarian and more private, much to our liking, while at Rimba Restaurant there is a more elegant ambience and seaview with „meaty“ options. However taking a 5 o‘clock tea (with a local twist) at Rimba is a real treat to cherish! Lovely experience! Dinner at Pegaga offers well spiced vegearian meals with a local and general south east asian theme. Rimba offers a similar theme, but with fish, seafood, meat and poultry. Both offered good food, eager staff and an overall very pleasant dining experience. We also attended the clean pool several times.

Und hat es grundsätzlich hervorragend gefallend, allerdings sollte man vielleicht doch etwas konkreter darauf hinweisen, dass der Weg zur Unterkunft zu Fuß sehr steil ist. Die knapp 200 Stufen zu unserer Unterkunft waren auf jeden Fall ein gutes Training. 😉

We absolutely loved our stay at Ambong Rainforest Retreat. The setting is genuinely beautiful — tucked into the rainforest, surrounded by wildlife, and incredibly peaceful. Seeing monkeys right around the resort was such a highlight and made the whole experience feel really special. Our accommodation was gorgeous and felt completely private, with the most lovely outdoor area to sit out on and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest (and even the tropical rain!). It was the perfect place to properly switch off. The staff were wonderful throughout — warm, friendly and always happy to help — and the spa was fantastic. We also loved how peaceful the resort felt while still being close enough to explore the rest of Langkawi. Ambong was one of the highlights of our Malaysia trip and exactly the sort of place we’d hoped to find in Langkawi. I would absolutely recommend it and would happily stay again. ❤️

The steps

This was perhaps the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in, and we're retired. The bedroom was large, the bed super comfortable and the view spectacular. The bathroom was clean, modern and spacious. The living area was well equipped, tastefully decorated and a perfect place to relax looking across the jungle to the sea. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and courteous. Nothing was to much trouble. The attention to detail was generally outstanding. Great breakfast with good choices. Restaurantsf or evening meals also good and reasonably priced in a beautiful setting. We would definitely recommend.
