Quinta da Travessa - Douro

This quinta was such a great experience! We so enjoyed sitting out by the pool drinking wine and having a picnic dinner on our first night, with bougainvilleas blooming around us and their sweet dog Rocky sitting by our feet. Nuno, the owner, was incredibly warm and friendly. And man, their wine is delicious! Make sure you partake in some of it. I highly recommend dining at the quinta, as the food is delicious. The cook made a local version of chicken curry for us. The location is perfectly situated between Regua and Pinhao, which made it a great strategic spot. I would definitely stay here again!

The rooms are so pretty and spacious. The only issue is that the beds are a little uncomfortable...if they added a mattress topper, that would probably solve the issue. But our sleep was very peaceful!

Beautiful, peaceful location with the warmest welcome from Nuno. Delicious home cooking and Nuno's own wine. The little garden and the swimming pool were great too.

The location was what we wanted, remote. Away from the hustle and bustle. The road there should be driven by day only, no guardrails and steep drops, not for the faint hearted. Beautiful location and great views. The welcome was friendly and courteous. You feel like you’re visiting someone at their house. We felt lucky that we could be accommodated for dinner, something that should definitely be mentioned as there is nowhere to go, no where! We enjoyed the dinners, maybe the price could have been communicated in advance. Nuno is a great host and the lady helping him (sadly I forgot her name) was always very helpful, in fact she happily gave us a lift from the railway station which, considering the heat, was extremely welcome. The breakfast was good. The bedroom spacious and well appointed. The pool was very welcome and well kept.

We felt that maintenance was lacking. Dry and empty flower troughs, uncut grass and badly kept gardens belied the photos. The rooms were clean, but more attentions to detail, dusting and clean shower (slight mould issues) would have helped.

Dinner meal was good but the dining area was very hot. No air conditioning. Traveling on the narrow barely 1-lane road was quite upsetting for my wife. We booked our stay for 2 nights but only stayed 1 night.

We had a suite but no AC. Very hard to shower with the steam not being removed.
