This house and its lovely owner are truly one of a kind! She is incredibly friendly and helpful, and seems to know every road, viewpoint and hidden corner within at least a 100-km radius. The breakfast is sensational, and the house itself is full of fascinating things, from a Californian player piano from the late 1800s to African art. Everything has been put together with so much love and character. I’ll never forget the wonderful smell of the house either. Highly recommended! Spanish spoken only, but a translation app definitely helps. I’d come back in a heartbeat.

I was allowed to keep my bicycle inside the property in the reception area. The owner gave lots of information about places to eat in Ona, and provided a map of the town.

l had to change rooms at 10.30pm due to an insect infestation in my room. Earliest breakfast was at 9.30am and this was not negotiable. I was told not to drink the water out of the taps but to fill up my water bottles from the public fountain outside in the square.
