Pyramids Overlook Inn

Great home base where I spent 5 nights while in Giza/Cairo. Puts you steps away from the Sphinx gate so you can get in right at opening and beat any crowds (you can have the Sphinx and burial chamber inside the great pyramid all to yourself if you time it right). Closest patio you can get to the sphinx and very private as well without bright lights and loud music like others. Food was good and the cook will work around your schedule. You can Uber anywhere for cheap like the grand Egyptian museum which isn’t far, but I’d recommend hiring a car for the day when visiting Saqqara/Dashur/Memphis which is certainly worthwhile; Adel the owner is willing to help with this if needed. WiFi is good if you need to use it to plan things. Don’t miss the sunsets.

You can’t stay any closer to the Sphinx than this place. Adel is the friendliest man in Egypt and his small team are all very attentive. They are all very focused on you having a fantastic experience when you stay there - genuinely. Adel arranged a driver to pick up from the airport and then take around the various historical sites in the area, Sakkara, Memphis and the Pyramids, it made the day very easy and enjoyable. You can book an evening meal at the property which was 300E£ and is a traditional Egyptian meal consisting of chicken, rice, soup, flatbread and an ocre stew which was all delicious, ideal for a feast as the sun is setting over the amazing view! The breakfast was a large sweet pastry bread with honey and jam and 2 boiled eggs and a plate of sliced cucumbers and tomatoes with a helping of sour cream and a lovely coffee.

The immediate area around the property is extremely run down but don’t let that put you off.

- Direct views from the rooftop. - Close distance to the Sphynx entry gate and just a few steps further from the ticket office (though we booked online). - You can see people walking up the hill towards the pyramids shortly after 7am . - You can see the hop-on hop-off bus starting its operation after 8am. - Great spots for photos. - Big bottle of cold water available for purchase for putting in my thermos for the hot day out! - Friendly family owners.

- Stairs could be challenging for someone with mobility issues but they help you take up the suitcases. - The wifi works on the rooftop but can be disconnected downstairs by the entrance. My eSIM stopped working so I relied on their wifi to get an Uber.

The location of the apartment is as close to the Sphinx and Pyramids as you can get, so the view from the terrace is second to none. The ticket office for admission to the Sphinx entrance gate couldn't be closer or more convenient. Adel and his staff were very friendly and helpful. Traditional local-style breakfast was served.

The rooms in the apartment are rather tired and a little shabby. It didn't impact our stay in that we were only there two nights, and it did make our stay feel authentic.
