Le Margherite

The apartments location, was walking distance to ferry for Valletta and Gozzo. Car hire was cheap and I would recommend. The local cafe had really coffee and pastry. We were there for a festival and explored the local town accross the harbour. Very pretty. We also discovered the place had a communal kitchen,which was useful.

The double bed was not very comfortable. The shower was a good one but the drainage slow so prone to flooding the bathroom.

It was easy to get the bus. Could walk down to Kalkara Square for the restaurants and coffee. Great view once you walked a couple of streets over. Shared kitchen was kept very clean.

The water didn’t get as warm as we were used to, but we adapted. A more substantial blanket on the bed would be nice

Room was very clean and tidy. Wi-fi was very good with small occasional hick-ups Bed were very comfortable.

The room is spacious, but there is hardly any furniture in it. There are no drawers, no wardrobe and no desk. Practically the only furniture is what can be seen in the photo, along with two small bedside surfaces. The chair in the room is quite uncomfortable, and there is only one glass in the bathroom. The refrigerator in the room was noisy, so it had to be switched off at night. There are no mosquito nets or any other protection against insects. There is a window, but it faces a wall only about a metre and a half away, so there is very little airflow. The shared kitchen is well designed, but it would be better if each room had its own set of dishes that guests could wash themselves, simply for hygiene reasons. PRM note: The room and bathroom are spacious enough to allow a wheelchair user to move around without difficulty. However, there are no grab bars or other accessibility features in the room nor bathroom whatsoever, so apart from the available space, there are no specific adaptations for guests with reduced mobility. There is also a step at the entrance, which could be difficult to manage if you are travelling alone and do not have someone with you to assist. The surrounding area is quite steep as well, so Kalkara itself may not be the most suitable location for wheelchair users. Once again, I would suggest that Booking.com apply stricter criteria when labelling a property as “disabled-friendly” or wheelchair accessible, since having enough space alone does not necessarily mean that a property is genuinely adapted for guests with disabilities. To make matters more striking, basic adaptations for PRM users cost only a few hundred euros and can last for decades.
