Romantik Hotel Markusturm

Excellent location and sizable apartment.

Parking is paid though the listing does not denote as such. Merely states, "private" so anytime you learn there is added cost on top of what you are expecting is always a negative. Major issue was apartment ambient noise. First, the apartment is undergoing upgrading to the outside; thus scaffolding and work crews were busy at work from the start of say break. Next, one expects there to be some noise, especially in an old building which may be hundreds of years old, HOWEVER, the apartment above might as well been occupants inside our own apartment as you could hear EVERYTHING. Snoring and incessant footsteps from one end of the apartment to the next. In comparison, we visited another hotel for comparison and asked to see a room which also has a 5 star restaurant col-located in the same venue for much less and better accommodations. Staff were pleasant but did not go the added step to acknowledge and make the matter right. Merely there to make as much as possible. Do not recommend as the intent of going away is to relax, not be inconvenienced with added costs and noise when working professionals far and wide are getting away. Should lower price to and communicate prior to people booking. Again, no concession for the non-communicated inconvenience and excessive noise of dwelling. Need to upgrade noise proofing sub-flooring or add carpet with thick underlayment.

Very warm and personal family run hotel (been in the family for over 125 years). Nearby parking and they did this for you at a good rate. We had the deluxe double room and it was very spacious with am amazingly large bathroom with bath and enourmous walk in shower. Breakfast was served personally. Fresh and wholesome, nice breads. We ate in the restaurant there in the evening on 2 occasions. Pretty good menu and well presented and cooked although our server forgot about us after giving us the menus for 20 + minutes. He apologised and gave us a free salad!

Beds were OK, the matrass could do with being replaced on the 4 poster bed a bit lumpy. Breakfast a bit limited in range as we got the same every day only a choice of eggs cooked the difference. They have a resident cat which had the run of the place. Bad news I am extremely allergic to them so had to stay clear of lobby and even some parts of the restaurant. No notice of this when booking or else I may have considered somewhere else.

Comfortable old building in the heart of Rothenburg. Easy access to the city center and train station

We were looking forward to dinner in the restaurant and unfortunately it was not open the night we were in Rothenburg.

I really wanted to be able to give this hotel a great review due to the staff, but it just isn't possible. The staff was incredible - very helpful, responsive and pleasant. They went out of their way to accommodate us and very all extremely friendly. The location was beyond compare, right in the middle of the city and close to the market square where all the action takes place. The room was very spacious and the bathroom large and modern. The hotel does have offsite parking several blocks away, offered at 12 Euros per night.

The hotel does not have any air conditioning or thermostat to control the temperature. It was very warm on the third floor and the options were to open the windows (no screens) to sleep with the flying insects and wake with the early morning outdoor noise or sweat profusely while trying to sleep. The bed was rock hard and the pillows so thin they provided no neck support (see picture with pillow on left and comforter on right). Advertised as a queen bed, it was actually two smaller beds pushed together, not secured, so I kept falling in the gap throughout the night. The room did not have a refrigerator or any dresser or other furniture to unpack clothes into but there was plenty of horizontal space to lay things out on. Despite flipping the door hand signs from Red (do not disturb) to Green (please make up the room) our room never got serviced. There is no elevator in the hotel and carrying large bags up 3+ flights of stairs through a winding maze of corridors to the 3rd floor was exhausting. It is not friendly to people with limited mobility or ADA compliant. As our most expensive room rate during our two week trip through Germany and Austria, the value didn't materialize for me.
