Domaine de Monrecour - Hôtel & Restaurant - Proche de Sarlat

An exceptional hotel in every respect. Dinner was excellent, the room was superb and the situation perfect. Unfortunately we couldn't book dinner for a second night as the hotel was very busy.

We stayed here before, so of course we compared this visit to the last one. It is a beautiful place, well kept up. There are 2 wonderful swimming pools which we did use. The bed was large and comfortable. The shower was big with good water pressure.

We were dismayed, upon our arrival, when the woman kept climbing the stairs to the very top of the tower in the castle. We had a 74 stair walk up & 74 stairs down each time we wanted to go do something. Basically 6 regular stories. There is no elevator. Nothing was said beforehand and no other room was available. The restaurant was really the reason we wanted to return, but they were unable to accommodate us during the 4 evenings we stayed. The breakfast was just ok. The meats & cheeses had brown edges-not fresh, variety was just ok. The whole place seemed understaffed. It had a much more corporate feel to it than before.

Hotel and Restaurant staff were exceptional as was location. We pre-booked dinner and had an exceptional evening on all accounts. Service, food, choice and atmosphere all spot-on. Dinner was expensive but justifiably so. Overall our stay was good value for money.

Aircon in room was a bit week, possibly on a timer schedule.

Very friendly cleaner, he gave us good tips for the area.

It has definitely changed since we were last here lost its quaint and chateau feel gone very commercial
