Hotel Izukyu

I drove from Ito to Shimoda. When I got to the hotel, there was plenty of parking for guests and it was free. The hotel was right opposite the famous Shirahama Beach and you were able to access the beach from the pool area of the hotel which was very convenient. The location of the hotel was great. It was about a 15 min drive to the CBD and the famous Perry Road. The Floating Aquarium and Shimoda Park was also a quick drive away. My room was very big and spacious and overlooking the ocean. I was able to see the beach and sunrise from my room. There is also an onsite restaurant for breakfast and dinner. I like to do my laundry while I am away especially when you are constantly at the beach. They have a room full of coin laundry which was great and which meant I did not have to wait for one. But the coin laundry does get busy during the evening. The hotel also has stairs and lifts which meant I did not have to wait for the lift all the time if I did not have luggage.

Although there was plenty of parking, I did not like the fact that P2 and P3 was on the left side of the hotel. P2 you had to walk down a steep ramp and share that walk way with the cars after you have parked your car to get down to the hotel. When it was raining, it just felt like a really long walk.

It was very clean and view of the ocean. Dinner and breakfast was buffet . Yukata they provide is so cute . Public bath was wonderful.

It was older like 80s but kept up well. Cabs only take cash. Dinner was expensive, but good. Had to cross the street to get to the beach. Beach was ok

Ocean-front and peaceful. The location and view was great, looking out over Shirahama Beach and a short hop to get right on the sand. Our rooms each had a bath overlooking the beach, and it was a great way to relax at the end of the day. Personally I wish the bath was longer vs the round tub, but it was still comfortable and the chair off to one side made a great place to continue to unwind. The rooms were well-equipped, with comfortable beds, A bit on the smaller side, but in fairness a good portion of the room real estate was taken up by the tub and chair area which were a lot more useful than more floorspace. The property is much larger inside than I'd thought at first, with buffet breakfast served in a room that could (and from the looks of it often did) hold large weddings. Unsurprisingly, the buffet was focused on Japanese tastes so while there were plenty of options for us someone with kids that are particular to western tastes may find fewer options than they might like. In that case there's a 7-11 right next door as a backup plan. While we didn't get a chance to use the large pool, we saw it being cleaned meticulously, they had a separate (large) splash pool for kids, and they even had inflatables for a very reasonable fee... as well as an air hose to fill up your own! Great places inside the large first and second floor lobby areas to sit and see the view, and lots of wide open space inside the hotel for kids to explore. Parking was easy, though I'd imagine on a crowded beach weekend someone might try and direct you into the lower paid parking lot and not the included hotel lot.
