Hôtel Mercure Bayonne Centre Le Grand Hotel

Elegant grand hotel with spacious feel in the reception. Good location for walking into the city centre and river side promenades. Comfortable bedroom.

Parking was some way from the hotel and expensive. However, there was a luggage drop off parking space right outside the hotel.

Fantastic location in a quiet street on the edge of the old town, close to the cathedral, castle, shops, restaurants and public transport. The reception staff were charming and helpful. Loved the quirky lift!

Housekeeping accidentally missed out our room one day but the reception staff were very apologetic and fetched fresh towels for us.

Superb location for walking around the city and also to explore by public transportation other towns or attractions in the area. The staff was outstanding and very friendly The bar and breakfast area have a beautiful decor. Breakfast have delicious local products and the freshly made orange juice offered is a very special delicate touch The hotel is in a building from another era, and the size of the room was amazingly large (great!) , and the view to the front street and trees was very nice The bed was very comfortable

The bathroom was also from another era, and although I liked the vintage large sink, the shower, toilletries and general facilities were not in line with a 4 star hotel (e.g. no washcloth yet shower gel in the shower, high slippery bathtub, unconfortable position of the shower, not enough hanging pegs or poor shelfs where to place the travel necessaire). Dark carpets show more the dust and needs to vacuum daily (which was not, and it showed)

Location was excellent. Staff was very nice, helpful.

The room was rather small and cramped. There was no place to store our luggage. Cups in the room were paper (ugh). The corridor was dark and gloomy, in fact rather depressing. Upon opening the door, there is a step within 2 feet just inside the door, to enter into the room. We were not warned that it was there and first time in, I went flying, luckily did not break anything. They should warn people as they sign in about that step! Sorry to say, it felt more like a 3 star, definitely not a 4 star hotel.
