L'Hotel In Pietra

Having dragged our cases across the town centre from our car park we were delighted with our welcome, our room, and the location above and within the Sassi locale. The hotel is very much in the heart of what you'll enjoy yet tucked away from the busier parts. Our room was large and as expected cut into the rock. We loved the colour of the stone, the hot tub was lovely and lively too, and stepping out of the bedroom door on to the front terrace we were immediately part of a unique landscape. The reception and breakfast areas were located in the surroundings of a former church carved into the rock of Matera, which encouraged us subconsciously into calm, hushed tones. Staff were very friendly and whilst the range of food was not very extensive, what we had was perfectly acceptable and set us up for the day. We loved stepping down into Sassi and exploring the maze of streets, the views over the gorge, and a glass or 2 of primitivo to help soak it all in. Rounded off by an awe-inspiring huge Unification Day fireworks display, this was an unforgettable destination.

Difficult to say anything that could be improved.

I loved the location, just a short walk from downtown! The property was super clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable, the breakfast was amazing, and the jacuzzi was a great bonus. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again!

I liked everything !

It was incredible to stay in a place that had been a thousand year old church. I loved our room overlooking the town and the breakfast was very complete. The staff gave us a history lesson too!

Position, nostalgic cave, exceptional sraff

We knew when getting room it was trapdoor. Wifi was non existent.
