This will forever be my favourite place from our trip to Japan. Such a beautiful home offering a glimpse into life in a traditional home and quieter part of Kyoto. Very close to Nijo Station and lots of amazing cafes, restaurants and local arcade nearby. The house has everything you need, comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen area, and most importantly, I loved staring out at the garden in the morning and night! But it was the immaculate details that make this place so special. Shin and Shohei were incredible hosts who explained the history of the home, the surrounding area and had recommendations for our time in Kyoto. There was an incredible welcome service of local fruits and desserts on arrival, a local refreshment delivered each day and rooms perfectly organised each day (including neatening our charging cables). Cannot wait to come back.

We rented both townhouses at Kyonoyado Gekkoan for our family. Both properties were unique and special! We were greeted by Shin and Shohei when we arrived. They were both so welcoming and helpful! They gave us great suggestions for sightseeing and dining. We enjoyed learning about the property from them, including the beautiful artwork. They arranged an incredible vegan breakfast that was delivered to us every morning. The garden spaces at both properties are beautiful! We slept so well on the comfortable beds and loved the pajamas they provided. Every evening after a full day of sightseeing, we enjoyed returning to a pot of tea and little treats provided by Shohei and Shin. Thank you!

We were so busy sightseeing that we wished we had more time to lounge around and enjoy this beautiful property!

My husband and I chose this ryokan to be our "luxury hotel" for our Japan trip and our only regret is not checking in sooner! This is a spacious, well-furnished suite where every detail has been considered to perfection! It is a "Qualified for Good Sleep" inn, meaning it has been through a very rigorous vetting to foster excellent sleep. My husband and I can both attest this is true! The hosts were very accommodating and very proud of their establishment. It was amazing to hear about the value of each artwork in the home! The kaiseki style breakfast was a little outside our normal fare but still impressive and delicious!

The property was fantastic. Lots of small details that the hosts, Shin and Shohei, pointed out that allowed us to appreciate them fully. The hosts met us on the day of our arrival and gave us recommends for the area, which were fantastic. They gave us new local snacks/treats every day as well. A wonderful stay.
