Villa Greta Hotel Rooms & Suites

The overall feel of Villa Greta is a family run but dated in parts hotel. Our room was in a row of other rooms outside of the main building with a shared terrace with a table and two chairs provided for a fantastic view of Taoramina. Coffee machine and a fridge were provided in your room and the newly decorated bathroom was very good.

We arrived by taxi in the end as we couldnt get a bus from the bus station for over an hour and a half which is expensive. VGH has many stairs so if you not mobile it might be tricky to get around. We were left to negotiate our own luggage so quite disapointing in service. The terrace situation was an issue for us as the first morning we had our neighbours outside our terrace sitting at our table chatting away while we were trying to get ready and have breakfast. The next morning the neighbours changed and the lady had a very loud telephone call at our table and then the third day we had a group of people surround said table to look at the view. Maybe the hotel need to section off the terraces so you have a bit more privacy.

A beautiful B&B in the hills. The balcony view over to Mount Etna is wonderful on a clear day. The walk to the Main Street in Taormina is around 15 minutes but is steep coming back up. We were welcomed with a fruit platter and sparkling wine which was very nice. Marianna at the hotel was super helpful with any questions we had. Thanks for a lovely stay

The parking was a little tricky. I understand parking in Taormina is at a premium so whilst it was helpful to have a space, there was only room for three cars and you had to block each other in, hence why you have to leave your key. It worked ok for us, but could be tricky if you want to keep coming and going freely during your stay

Villa Greta offers breathtaking panoramic views over Taormina and the sea, which is undoubtedly its biggest advantage. The breakfast was above average, and the restaurant served very good food-we especially enjoyed the burrata, lasagna, and tuna spaghetti.

However, there are several downsides to consider. The hotel is quite far from the beach, and getting there every day becomes tiring. You either have to walk a lot or use the cable car, which often has very long queues, especially in the afternoon when returning from the beach. Taxis are available but quite expensive. Housekeeping could also be improved. Although we were told that towels would be changed daily, ours were only replaced after three days and only after we specifically requested it. The staff were generally polite and tried to be helpful, but at times we felt slightly uncomfortable. On our last day, after checking out, we had to wait several hours for our transfer to Catania Airport. We asked if we could stay in the restaurant area and order coffee and lunch at our own expense, which they agreed to. However, we were repeatedly asked when we would be leaving, giving us the impression that they wanted us to vacate the space as soon as possible. It wasn’t rude, but it didn’t feel particularly welcoming either.
