Rydges Formosa Auckland Golf Resort

Location was perfect for us as we were attending a wedding on site. It was also a very nice setting and didn't feel like you were in a large city. Nice and close to the harbour and beaches

The breakfast buffet wasn't great value for money, limited choices

The rooms were nice and spacious. Parking right outside villa was great and convenient

The bathroom was dirty, Shower and bathtub could do with a more thorough clean, a cockroach was also found crawling in the bathroom near bathtub. The couches were also stained which was also unpleasant

Waking up to play golf is a dream. Its a beautiful course with stunning views and some challenging holes. All the staff in the golf shop are legends and when you stay, you get an automatic discount on your golf games. The cheaper villas are actually nicer and having a double shower and bath is bliss after a full day of golf

The main staff of the resort are the downside of this place..and the food. They clearly use the cheapest ingredients possible so we take ourselves into the old area of beachlands for much higher quality eats. The staff that work at the front desk make you feel like you're putting them out by paying with cash or being excited about being there (because the place is really beautiful). We've stayed a handful of times and its always been the same. Once i had 9dollars to clear on check out day after a 3day stay, but for some reason got a call about 930pm which woke us up to ask when we were coming to pay it off. Not sure if its poor staff training or the high turnover that hospo usually has, but its very odd. Won't stop us from returning though so its not the worst

Nice linen on the bed (comfy), lots of light in the bathroom with the skylight. Good storage. Nice shear curtains, for daytime viewing and blackout curtains inside those, at night

Dated, that is how we saw the bathroom fixtures - especially the shower. Little hot water pressure (old pipes), so it takes a long time to feel comfortable [wasting water]. Bath jets did not operate. Toilet seemed dark and dirty walls. Hot water jug made an awful noise when boiling. Coffee table had stains on it. Carpet was well used, and when moving the couch we found an unused Durex condom, and a lot of debris and dust underneath.
