The history and character.
I feel like the decor could be a bit nicer for the cost of this hotel. The restaurant, for example, could be really lovely with better interior design.

The historic building was stunning, and the surrounding countryside was beautiful. Staff were friendly.
The castle had been terribly mutilated by recent "modernisations." It was being run as a centre for "dungeons and dragons" and fantasy
events, which made a mockery of the real historical value of this architetctural gem. The whole thing could make an incredible historic hotel, but at present its, unfortunately, a rather tacky theme venue. We took one sniff at the rank dark and rather putrid "restaurant" and went out to eat elsewhere.
The staff were cheerful and pleasant though and it was cheap place to stay in transit.
