The staff were wonderful. The location was excellent and attached to hagiso cafe was lovely and the Japanese breakfast beautiful. I really enjoyed the onsen free pass and used it daily.

The room smelt awful of dampness or sweat and I found that difficult as someone sensitive to smell. It was also quite noisey from the street and I didn't like that the windows were opaque. I much preferred the Niwa accommodation.

Hanare was probably one of my favourite places I have ever stayed in all my years of travelling. There is something about it that makes you feel you are really living in Yanaka, not just staying in a hotel. Everything is so carefully taken care of, every little detail. I particularly loved the Japanese breakfast, where you can really feel the care behind every single ingredient. You can see that they genuinely want their guests to feel at home. Nana was incredibly kind, patient and generous with her advice throughout my stay, and I really want to thank her for that. I also loved going to the local sento, the public bath, which made the whole experience of staying in Yanaka feel even more special. I changed hotel tonight and I already miss Hanare. If I come back to Tokyo, I know where I will stay.

Wonderful stay for our first night in Japan! All the little touches, from the welcome chat to the little gifts and complimentary ice-cream were so appreciated. The staff are really friendly and went above and beyond, giving me advice and booking a nearby nail salon before my stay. Yanaka is a perfect place to stay away from the city buzz. Appreciated the delicious traditional breakfast in the morning, and all of the notes. Would recommend and definitely stay again when next in Tokyo!
