Buffet dinner

the location was excellent; easy walking access to the town of Ericeira; spectacular views of the sea from the pool areas

the staff; they were all unhappy couldn't give a smile or a good morning.....from front reception staff to breakfast, bar and housekeeping no one ever said hello or smiled...it was so sad to see staff so miserable....service for food or drink at the bar was terrible, on day of arrival was served a drink in a cracked glass, asking for a replacement glass was clearly not something you ask .. no apology in fact the drink was going to be poured into another glass!!! please give these employees a hospitality training session .... this was not the case in other establishments around Ericeria...just Vila Gale.

I had a great stay here. A traditional good hotel in a perfect location by the seaside, with a great deal of charm. I particularly enjoyed all the small details, such as the little picture tiles - each of them different - set into the floor of my balcony overlooking the sea. I thought it must take constant care for this hotel to keep all its old-school charm while also keeping up to date (great pool areas, super in-room tv offerings, enjoyable breakfast buffet which could also be taken outside on the terrace, etc.) Thank you for the good holiday.

I was a bit puzzled that the combination of towels in my room every day seemed to change, even though I had followed the usual code to let the staff know what to change (hanging up / not hanging up.) I thought it was rather old-fashioned and I environmentally friendly that there was no option for guests to sort their waste for recycling - particularly because the hotel only provided a water bottle on the first night so after that the plastic bottles from the shops started to accumulate. Or else a corridor drinking water dispenser would have been good. The layout of the breakfast room is a bit random so at busy periods it's a bit chaotic and stressful as guests crisscross the room, trying to find things which are not where you expect.

Some staff were so sad to be working there…. Never a smile, never an ounce of professional hospitality training. I felt like an inconvenience in the breakfast room
