The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux

The Xara Palace was exceptional. We absolutely loved our stay. The bed was very comfortable and there was a bathtub. It was located within the walls of the old city of Mdina. Loved it!

The spiral staircase was quite steep. It was no problem for us, but could be for others.

The location is beautiful and there are a lot of tourists in the day - we were told from cruise ships - once it is a quieter it is really easy to appreciate the history and beauty of Mdina. We had an excellent private walking tour and the guide Raphael was exceptional, his passion for history and knowledge was appreciated. The staff are very helpful, and the location of the place is wonderful . We loved every moment, and the dinner in the De mondian was superb- and we are delighted to have discovered Maltese bubbly and white and red wines.

The Trattoria downstairs is very good - generally - the manager is good- yet the pace needs to be better organised on service- as when it was not busy or when it was the pace was both times slow. My other note- as you receive a lot of tourists that come just for food and drinks here - it will be great to have some sign or note that using mobile phones on speaker is rude to other guests- as we did experience someone who was super loud and had his phone on speaker whilst he had his meal and note he was not sitting alone. I think staff need to take note- it does ruin it for everyone else and we were few in the place at the time and all were annoyed. It is a beautiful and relaxed place and I hope it will retain its charm .

Exceptional location, exceptional staff with second to none hospitality. One of the best experiences ever.

Well, not a dealbreaker, it would be nice to have access to the pool.
