Au Lac Charner Hotel

In the middle of District 1, so good location to explore on foot or via Grab/taxi. Rooms are ok, felt small although our balcony with outside bath tub was the same size like the room and probably counted in the quoted sqm size, but it wasn't useable due to rain. Aircon was needed and working well quietly once set to low fan speed, mini bar fridge is cold, has room for your own stuff, and not too noisy. Breakfast was good and lots of variety, although the stale pour over coffee is abysmal - no coffee machine. Afternoon tea on the roof for free, with some nice snacks. Roof top pool is a decent size, one could do some laps. Gym small but well equipped. Staff was friendly and forthcoming, helped with bookings - service with a smile. Could pay the hotel with debit card, no surcharge - excellent.

TV from the neighbouring room was mounted to the thin wall and the neighbour transmitted Al Jazeera commentary until 2 am in the morning. Rooms are on the small size, dim lit and have this lime washed paint ambience which hides the decay - looked a bit dated. Elevator music plays only one tune (ok, that's a joke).

Room smelt musty. Staff tried to ask us to leave breakfast 10 minutes before closing. Said to take plates to room, but not telling us that there is a $10 cost to take plates to room.
