Harbour House Inn Newcastle, Northern Ireland

Great location

It's a strange set up with the kitchen in a coffee shop next door; breakfast is actually eaten there (food very good) and dinner in the hotel itself with the food carried through from the coffee shop kitchen! We had to pay for the dinner on the spot rather than bill it to the room. Bedroom spacious with three windows giving sea views; bathroom adequate with shower in the bath which was narrow and curved, not much flat standing space.

As usual, lack of suitable towel rails for towels to dry. Also, another poor feature of so many hotel rooms, no electric socket near a mirror for hair drying; no mirror near somewhere to apply make up etc. (Yes, tiny shelf in bathroom but when two people are sharing a room the bathroom isn't always available!) Why don't room designers ask the fussiest woman they know to spend a night in every room they design, especially before they charge the best part of £200 for a night? The outside of the building looked in need of some TLC (cracked plaster, weeds growing in roof).

I loved the location the accommodation was absolutely amazing and the staff were wonderful.

The 1st room they gave us (furthest from fire door and any exit ... even though we had specified upon booking our wish and need to have a room near a lift or stairs due to our mobility issues) The room had a dormer ceiling and a view of the side of a building very close to the window, it was very unpleasant and claustrophobic The amount of uneven and unsafe steps all through the building Shower in the bath Shower curtain (an outdated and unhygienic arrangement) The hot and cold sink taps were faulty, we brought this to the manager's attention before we left The necessity to demand from us a £100 sterling holding fee on our visa card in case of any damages
