Loman Art

Because no picture I take (I have shared a few) will actually capture the utter magnificence of the place, I will also share one that was made, on the day, by an artist who had an exhibition opening in the space. Thank you Loman. The location is wonderful. Very easily accessible. It's the colourful blue house at the heart of Ouakam City! The gallery doors are open to anyone... The gallery space is wonderful. Handmade metallic art everywhere...I really liked Scribbles! Go have a look. And book the space for your event. There were two events held in the space while I was there. Overseen by Loman herself. Beautifully curated... Which brings me to Loman and the army of people who make this place as amazing as it is. She's the matriarch who makes sure you are okay. Not just comfortable...okay! That's rare! Babakar almost anticipates your needs, breakfast is a treat and Fatou and the ladies who serve you actually learn the way you like your breakfast...which is always nice! And they keep the space so clean... Including my room which, like the rest of the place, is beautifully decorated with art and a balcony where, in this heat and because it's all air conditioned, was where I spent most of my time...reading a book (written by a former guest!)...listening to the sounds of the streets. The other part of my time was spent at the rooftop... The little nooks all around the roof top, all very different, all telling a different story, woven through art, bird song, plants, and food made by the very lovely and friendly and talented Clément and Yandé that is simply exquisite...everytime! Zagy at the bar makes a mean Bissap Mojito! This is just a surface scratch of my experience. Come! Visit! Stay! I promise you will walk away feeling like you were home.

There is absolutely nothing I disliked about this place. The mosquitoes (not a single one in my room, I should say) were just doing their thing...so do bring some insect repellent.

You are immersed into a unique, colorful, creative gallery of African artist’s work, which includes Loman Art! You wake up to the joyful songs of the weaver birds accompanied with the harmony of many other species of birds of which I couldn’t identify. It was peaceful, a ready respite, a retreat like atmosphere after spending splendid days of exploring Senegalese life, beaches, art and culture. We were treated to an evening art performance of a harpist and a modern dancer. We were with other appreciators of fine art, dining and having wine and cocktails. Lyman has thought of everything down to the gnat’s eyebrow. And I can’t leave this review without mentioning the high quality of staff. They were friendly, accommodating and provided a high level of service. We spent eight days there, and I was sad to leave.

There was nothing to dislike. Over an eight day span I would discover a poem or an art display that I hadn’t noticed before. The food was spectacular and the breakfast was healthy, and tasty. The regular cafe and the rooftop created eye candy to art appreciators. The staff exceptional.

We loved the art work visible everywhere. The host went out of her way to make us feel at home. We left feeling like we gained a new friend.

The property was fine.

The location is very central and easy to access everything from there.

Really nothing to complain about.
