HIDE ELLA Hotel & Resort

The location of this hotel is stunning, with views to the mountains, you can even spot monkeys jumping around. The whole building structure makes you feel you’re part of the impressive landscape. Everybody serving at the restaurant was lovely and they have such a huge selection of food, the room has a good side, as well as the bathroom.

Beautiful view and outdoor deck areas. Great breakfast. The pool would have been nice but we didn’t use it. Above the pool floor it looked like there might be an outdoor bar in peak season (it wasn’t in use while we were there) and that would have been a big bonus for me too as it looked really nice.

We had a rock facing room but without a balcony so it had a fixed window. I found the room a bit small and claustrophobic. The restaurant has a nice view but lacks a bit of soul. Would be good if they had some music playing or something.

We stayed at Hide Ella as part of our honeymoon across Sri Lanka, and the property certainly makes a strong first impression. Perched high in the hilltop and walking distance of Ella town, hotel has a fantastic location and some spectacular views, with Ella Rock directly across from the property. The hotel itself is relatively small, with a limited number of rooms spread across a couple of floors. Highlight of Hide Ella is the stunning outlook over the gorge and towards Ella Rock. The restaurant, located on the top floor, makes the most of the setting, with magnificent views for dine in. Breakfast had a good range of options, and there was also a decent selection of drinks. One small downside, however, was the number of trapped and dead bugs around the restaurant area. It felt as though there was no easy way for them to get out, and the area could have been cleaned more thoroughly. The swimming pool is quite small and there are only a limited number of lounge beds, so finding a spot by the pool could be difficult, particularly when the hotel is busy. It’s a nice space to take in the views, but it feels somewhat limited. Our room was a decent size and came with a balcony, which was a nice addition. The bathroom was adequate, although fairly small, with a compact shower. Unfortunately, there was also a leak in the bathroom, which we reported to the hotel upon checkout. Hopefully, this has since been resolved. Overall, Hide Ella is a beautiful property in a fantastic location, and the views are undoubtedly its biggest strength. That said, we felt it was rather expensive for what it offers and didn’t quite live up to the upmarket experience it presents itself as. The steep hill leading up to the property can also be a challenge at times ; even our driver struggled to get up to drop us off. Nevertheless, for a short stay in Ella, particularly if spectacular views and a convenient location are priorities, Hide Ella is still worth considering.

The staff and service is excellent and could not fault them, Breakfast is very good and extensive, and the views are amazing from the hotel. The rooms are clean.

I would not rate this a 4* hotel and it is totally overpriced. I really felt cheated by the price paid (c£300/night) is extortionate for the experience. The shower was blocked (but was fixed quickly once flagged), the shower leaked all over the bathroom, the rooms are very small, and the location is quite difficult if travelling with a baby or eldery people. The wifi is also poor. If this was a reasonably priced hotel, all the the above would be acceptable but at £300/night my expectations are much much higher - it was by far the most expensive place we stayed in the whole of Sri Lanka but sadly the experience overall was far better in other hotels.
