The staff I met were very friendly (I only had brief contact with staff as it's a no-contact check-in and check-out) and the room is cosy but I found it very dark - the main overhead light was very dim, and there's not much natural light. The bed was very comfy, the shower hot and powerful. The best thing is the location, which is very central to all the attractions of Cartmel. Plenty of nice, fluffy towels. The staff kindly let me check in a couple of hours early, which I was very grateful for, and message communication was great throughout the booking period.

The room was very dark with very little natural light. Also, it was cold. The heating only came on at 9am and if you're on a walking holiday, you're likely to be up much earlier, and it was very chilly first thing and in the middle of the day (the heating came on again at some point in the afternoon). It would be good to be able to control the timing of the heating myself. The room was comfy for sleeping, but not the sort of place I'd want to relax in for a long time. It's also a shame there weren't photos of the exact room I was staying in when I booked it - I'd seen lots of the other rooms, which all look a lot lighter and brighter in the pictures, but Rhyd wasn't pictured. I was also surprised there weren't shampoo, conditioner and shower gel dispensers in the shower - it later transpired there were 3 little soap bars for shampoo, conditioner and soap but this wasn't immediately obvious from the packaging. Finally, there was a lot of noise from the restaurant/nextdoor, but this quietened down by about 10pm or so. It's a lot of money for what it is, but then Cartmel is an expensive destination.

Toiletries were cheap and poor quality. No tv. WiFi speed woefully slow and kept dropping out. No breakfast available so had to go elsewhere in the village
