The lovely Newlands Valley is close by, between Braithwaite and Buttermere, and the gorgeous Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. There is something for everyone, from a quiet countryside stroll to a tough walk up Skiddaw or the famed Catbells. Take a boat excursion around Derwentwater or see Castlerigg Stone Circle, Jennings Brewery, and Mirehouse, a stately house and gardens on the Bassenthwaite Lake's shoreline.
