I stayed at Hostel Beach House for seven nights in a 12-bed mixed dorm. This accommodation is a little different from a traditional hostel, so I think it is important for future guests to understand the setup before booking. The property is essentially a large dorm room inside the owners’ home, where they also live. The only communal area is the kitchen/balcony, so guests can either spend time on their bed, sit at the kitchen table or go out. This may work perfectly well for travellers who only need an affordable place to sleep and plan to spend most of their time exploring. However, I would not recommend it to digital nomads or anyone who needs to work during their stay. There is no dedicated lounge or workspace, which meant that I had to use my laptop at the kitchen table. Although the kitchen is advertised as the communal area, working there appeared to make the owners uncomfortable while they were using the space for meals. A language barrier made the situation more difficult, and one interaction felt quite confrontational, even though I was simply using the only communal space available. I think the listing should explain this setup more clearly so that working travellers can make an informed decision before booking. There were also a few practical issues. A single roll of toilet paper was often not enough for a room shared by 12 guests, and it regularly ran out without being replaced. I would recommend bringing your own as a precaution. The owners also smoked while walking through the communal area and dorm. This was unpleasant, particularly when a balcony was available. Personally, I would not stay here again, but clearer information in the listing would help future guests decide whether this type of accommodation suits their needs.
