I made allowance for the fact that the property was family owned , not a chain. The father had retired through ill health and the son was taking over. The refurbishment was a work in progress. The price was good value. The son was friendly and helpful. The building had character. I slept well on a comfortable clean bed with good quality clean linen . I will return.

It was a nice place to stay if you’re attending an event. However, the beds were quite squeaky and wobbly. Also, the check-out door was locked, which made it difficult to return the key normally; a key box would be a good idea. Overall, it was relatively quiet, and I appreciated the back entrance for after-hours access.

Great experience staying at Chequers. The hotel is very well located, plenty of car park spaces in front of the hotel and staff was absolutely brilliant!

Good location, great value, basic, but very comfortable room, friendly staff, and a great bar.
