Homewood Suites by Hilton Calgary Downtown

The room was large and beds were comfortable. We stayed here for the convenience/ proximity to the Calgary Stampede (less than 10 minutes’ walk). The breakfast was plentiful and included pastries, eggs, potatoes, fruit, cereal and make your own waffles. Free tea and coffee was available 24/7. However, we would not stay here again. Although not the fault of the hotel there is a serious issue with homeless people outside the hotel that means the doors are kept locked in the evening. In only 3 nights we saw people smoking crack pipes and emergency services attending what I assume was an overdose right outside. This review is not intended to imply all homeless people are drug addicts or dangerous but I would not like to walk around this area on my own or at night.

Beautiful large suite. 20 min walk from stampede grounds. Safe underground parking. Drug store, Winners and grocery store across the street. If you’re biking , nice and close to the river trail for a great bike ride or walk. Be prepared - like lots of downtown areas, there are many people on the streets who have a drug addiction.

There was a lot of selection at the complementary breakfast each morning. The room was clean. There was a broken drawer handle we noticed upon arrival and despite the front desk assuring us it would be fixed, it stayed broken for our week long stay. There were a lot of homeless encampments around the entire hotel but there were security guards/police patrolling constantly. All things considered, I would stay here again.

Very nice and clean room. The staff are great. Recommend this hotel.
