Riad Palais D'Or

Excellent location within the medina, within easy walking distance of cafés, restaurants, the casbah, and buses/trams to further points of interest. We felt very safe in the area, including after dark. Comfy beds and friendly staff. Nice breakfast for 40 dirhams, but there are plenty of other options close by if you want to be more adventurous. Decent wifi throughout.

By design, the windows in a riad such as this open inward to the inner balconies and internal courtyard. While that makes for a charming design, it does mean that, even though you're upstairs, anyone can look in at you through your window. There's no a/c so you have an electric fan, but it's not enough to keep you cool at night with the window shutter closed, and it has to be closed at night for privacy - kind of a vicious circle. Another negative is the hot water situation - it was totally unreliable: it would run fine for a minute, then turn cold even when set to max hot; or the water would reduce to a dribble. This was an ongoing problem every day. Last negative: nowhere to unpack your stuff: 3 tiny drawers and two chairs. A small table was totally occupied by the fan.

Overall impression was really nice: a decent, mostly clean room, big beds, and amenities exactly as shown in the room's pictures and description. Our host was very kind and helpful, and the accommodation itself is located in the strict city center.

The wifi was not working most of the time (losing connection), and it was rather slow. Also, the room wasn't very quiet because of the construction, but we were staying here just for one night, so it wasn't much of a problem.
