VIVA Alameda Suites - River Guest House

The room was clean, attractive and comfortable. The location perfect, and being right above a cafe made a great solution for breakfasts.

One thing only - the door unlocking by code was not very reliable. I often had to try several times before the door was unlocked. This made me nervous about leaving the apartment.

Riverside property….whats not to like?? Absolutely beautiful location. And best cafe that I found in Portugal, Confeitaria Portillo, right next door, and responsible for the umbrellas and chairs out every morning, and the most delicious food and coffee. Kindest people ever. Great place for breakfast (and lunch) right outside my front door, where I could watch the boats go by on the river and the tram happily rattle past by. Great people watching location, on the street and from the two large windows in the room. Comfortable bed, and handy shelf to store things. Really good shower and nice sized bathroom.

The noise at night, although that was no fault of the property owners. The location means party time for others in close proximity to the property and occasional rowdiness late into the night, created by passers by. I also missed not having a kitchen, which other guest houses and hostels I have stayed in, have had. That’s where the cafe next door, came in so handy! But no complaints besides that. I would stay there again, in a heartbeat - only with earplugs next time!

The location was amazing, right in the middle of everything and very convenient for exploring the city. The apartment itself was quite small and very simple, nothing particularly special. However, the service and communication with the host were excellent — they always replied very quickly and kindly allowed us to leave our luggage there on the check-in day, which we really appreciated.

Unfortunately, there were also some major negatives. The entire apartment had a very unpleasant smell, which we believe was coming from the shower drain. The odor stayed the whole time during our stay and was quite unbearable at times. We also found hair on the bed that clearly did not belong to us, and the walls were noticeably dirty.
