A paradise! Welcome to Casa del Cavallo, an idyllic, charming, and unique vacation retreat with a rooftop terrace and a pool overlooking the sea in Conca dei Marini.
For several years now, Conca dei Marini has been considered a hidden gem. It’s said to be idyllic and tranquil here—a bit off the beaten path of the tourist crowds along the coast. Simply charming.
Even owner Sergio couldn’t resist the irresistible charm of the “Conchesi,” the residents of Conca. Within two years, he built this unique vacation retreat, which you simply couldn’t imagine anywhere else but here.
At this point along the “Amalfitana,” a narrow ridge juts far out into the sea. The winding roads hug the rocky, steep coastline. Just a few more turns, and we’re right in the middle of it—in Sergio’s paradise, which became even more heavenly in 2020 thanks to a small pool (4 m x 2 m) with a view of Capri.
A SERENE RETREAT AT CASA DEL CAVALLO
We enter the estate through an old wooden door; its name derives from a magnificent black horse that once grazed below the house. Its beauty and elegance fascinated the owner so much that the house was henceforth named Casa del Cavallo.
Before us stretches a long terrace surrounded by lush green Mediterranean vegetation, offering a view in only one direction: toward the shimmering blue sea. Delicate white chairs are arranged around the solid wooden table. We can literally feel the “dolce vita” that surrounds this place.
Sergio’s boundless creativity is also reflected in the interior of the house. With great energy and passion, he has transformed the former, dilapidated farmhouse into a unique, inviting space across three floors, one that unmistakably bears his stylistic signature.
GROUND FLOOR – Just inside the entrance is the long living room with cozy seating areas and distinctive antique furniture. A small bathroom is tucked away behind a niche with a sofa. A few steps lead through an arched doorway into the dining area. Just as on the terrace accessible from here, a long, heavy wooden table dominates the space. The antique tiles adorning the fireplace come from the local Monastero Santa Rosa. It was abandoned many years ago and eventually converted for tourist use.
We pass through another arched doorway and enter the kitchen. The shelves are stacked with ceramics from Vietri.
1ST FLOOR – A red staircase leads us to the first floor. Here we find two bedrooms (one double bed; two single beds), both with stunning ocean views. There’s also an elegant bathroom here.
SECOND FLOOR – On our way up, we head toward a massive bookshelf. Here we find ourselves in Sergio’s studio. From the high domed ceiling, our gaze wanders through the large windows outward to the seemingly endless sea.
Beyond the studio, we step out onto the rooftop terrace, whose floor is adorned with antique majolica tiles from the 18th-century Giustiniani ceramics workshop. They once covered the floor of an old church in Amalfi. As we gaze at the graceful coastal landscape, the day slowly draws to a close.
Our tour also comes to an end in the house’s third bedroom. Thanks to the floor-to-ceiling window, the room is blessed with a magnificent view of the sea. A narrow bathroom is located directly behind the double bed. A wooden door at the end of the room leads directly outside. It’s a relic of bygone days when this room housed a horse.
A POOL OVERLOOKING CAPRI – What do you do when a man (!) is “trapped” at Casa del Cavallo during lockdown? It’s simple: you make yourself comfortable and install a small, 4 m x 2 m pool. Since 2020, it has been located on the spacious terraced grounds that stretch below the vacation home. From the pool, the view extends across the deep-blue sea all the way to the idyllic island of Capri.
A vegetable garden has also been planted on the newly landscaped grounds. Guests at Casa del Cavallo are welcome and encouraged to help themselves here to their heart’s content and according to their appetite.
PARKING: A parking space is available in front of the house, which is located at the end of a dead-end road (winding road); however, this cannot be guaranteed, as the space does not explicitly belong to the house. A covered parking space at the beginning of the access road, about 300 m from the house, can be reserved for a fee.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Grocery stores, bars, and restaurants are located about 700 m from Casa del Cavallo. Conca dei Marini is also served by SITA buses, which provide easy access to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, and Sorrento. A bus stop is about 500 m away. The nearest beach is approximately 1.5 km away.
At the restaurant Le Bontà del Capo, just a short walk from the vacation home, the “Lemon Tour” offers a culinary glimpse into your vacation region from Monday through Saturday. In pairs or small groups, you’ll first harvest lemons and make your own limoncello. Afterward, Fiorenzo Oliveto, who leads the tour, serves a delicious three-course lemon-based meal.

For several years now, Conca dei Marini has been considered a hidden gem—idyllic and peaceful, somewhat off the beaten path along the coast, simply charming.
It was the irresistible charm of the “Conchesi,” the residents of Conca, that Sergio, owner of Casa del Cavallo, could not resist either. Within two years, he “created” this unique retreat, which you can only imagine in this place and nowhere else.
A narrow ridge juts far out into the sea at this point along the “Amalfitana.” Winding roads hug the rocky, steep coast. A few more turns and there we are—in Sergio’s paradise, which has become even more enchanting since a small pool (4 m x 2 m) with a view of Capri was added in 2020.
STYLISH LODGING
We pass through an old wooden door onto the property, which is named after a gorgeous black horse that used to graze below the house. Fascinated by its beauty and elegance, the owner decided to call the house Casa del Cavallo.
We see a long terrace surrounded by lush, green Mediterranean flora, with a view focused on one thing: the sparkling blue sea. Charming white chairs are arranged around a solid wooden table. We are captivated by the atmosphere of la dolce vita here.
The interior of the house also reflects Sergio’s remarkable creativity. By pouring a great deal of work, passion, and his heart and soul into restoring the three floors of the dilapidated former farmhouse, Sergio has succeeded in creating a unique and inviting atmosphere that clearly bears his signature style.
GROUND FLOOR – Upon entering, we find ourselves in the long living room with cozy seating areas and charming antique furniture. A small bathroom (shower/toilet/bidet) is tucked away behind a recessed area with a sofa. We then climb a few steps and pass through an arched doorway into the dining area, which opens onto the terrace. A long, heavy wooden table stands in the center of the room. The antique tiles adorning the fireplace were salvaged from the local Monastero Santa Rosa after it was abandoned many years ago and have since been repurposed for tourism. Passing through another arched doorway, we enter the kitchen (including a fridge-freezer, gas stove, oven, and dishwasher). The shelves are stacked with Vietri ceramics.
1ST FLOOR – Climbing a red staircase takes us to the first floor, where we find two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with twin beds), both offering a lovely view of the sea, and an elegant bathroom (bathtub, toilet, and bidet).
2nd FLOOR – An enormous bookshelf is the first thing we notice on our way up to the 2nd floor. We have arrived in Sergio’s studio. Looking around, our gaze wanders from the high domed ceiling out through the large windows to the seemingly endless sea.
From the studio, we step out onto the rooftop terrace with antique 18th-century majolica floor tiles manufactured at Giustiniani Ceramics and once used to cover the floor of an old church in Amalfi. As our eyes follow the graceful coastline, the day slowly draws to a close.
And our tour of the house also comes to an end in the third bedroom, from where you also have a terrific view of the sea. A narrow bathroom with a shower is located right behind the double bed. The wooden door at the far end of the room opens onto the outdoor area. It is a relic from times gone by, when a horse was kept in this room.
Amenities at Casa del Cavallo also include: air conditioning (in the bedrooms) and gas heating (extra charge for both if used), a fireplace (in the dining room), Wi-Fi, TV, a washing machine, and a children’s bed.
A POOL FACING THE ISLAND OF CAPRI – During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, Sergio thought about how to make the most of his time at home. He used that time to create a beautiful addition to Casa del Cavallo on the terraced grounds stretching out below the house—a small 4 m x 2 m pool with a view across the deep blue sea and all the way to the Isle of Capri.
A vegetable garden was also laid out on the redesigned grounds. Guests staying at Casa del Cavallo are welcome—and encouraged—to pick whatever their hearts and stomachs desire from the produce growing there.
