The Shrubbery Hotel

Location was good but parts of S Mallet disappointing. Hotel good although had breakfast out and about.

The slightly edgy town centre in the evening.

Location for our purposes was perfect

Can’t complain

Food was good and freshly prepared

No provision of healthy options or fruit

The bed was reasonably comfortable and the hotel is in the centre of the town.

This is a budget hotel and it looks tired, tatty, and a wee bit scruffy. Room furniture is dated, and there was a carpet in the bathroom. The property generally looks a little unloved. At £100 per night (without breakfast) it’s about the going rate even for a budget hotel in most places these days but there’s definitely better on offer reasonably near by. It was by no means the worst place I’ve ever stayed but it’s far from the best either. It did its job, in that it provided me with a bed, a very small tv, and tea making facilities. I suppose my disappointment was, I’d expected more from the publicity photos and the reviews I’d read online. Yes the building may be old but that shouldn’t excuse the lack of care or attention to detail. I live in a house 250 years plus so I understand the difference between quirky and scruffy.
