The Hotel Blackpool

Review of “The Hotel Blackpool” Welcome to the latest installment of “Fat Man less travelled” (although this month I’ve certainly gained some rail miles) It has been the nearly 20 years since I last stayed in a traditional B&B style hotel at Blackpool or elsewhere and as such I have certainly been spoiled by the national brands in thinking what is and isn’t available in a hotel. However, I will give the owner their due - when booking they do say this: “Please don't expect a champagne style hotel on a Stella Artois budget if this is what you looking for, we suggest paying 10 times the price at another place.” The owner, is always on the go given that no only do they own and run this hotel, they are also in the process of buying and renovating another further down the street. The hotel itself less than 5 minutes walk from Blackpool North station and is an amalgamation of 2 old Blackpool Townhouses with an extension on the front giving additional space for the dining room area. If you’re lucky enough to catch them whilst feeling chatty; they certainly have a wealth of stories from their varied life both here in Blackpool and from their earlier life in Ireland. … Me and my fiancé was given Room 11; which we were to find was on the top floor, in the 2nd building; now anyone who has been in a Blackpool B&B will know how steep their stairs can be, especially for someone as chronically unfit as myself; and my constantly overfilled suitcases. So finding myself on the 2nd floor… I was thrilled, I had hoped for a Sherpa Guide for assistance on a few of my day’s stay after some extensive walking in and around Blackpool; I swear I saw a mountain goat one morning but I may have been a bit hazy from lack of sleep. The room itself was a double room, which is more than adequate for most travellers, with some basic amenities for hot drinks and a set of drawers and shelves for guests to unpack their suitcases if they prefer.

As a larger-bodied person, I did struggle to fit down certain corridors as well as difficulties to get in the shower cubicle.

Don't expect too much, but it was excellent value for money and fine for one night.

The downstairs bar area was being refurbished so wasn't accessible. Not a complaint because the price charged reflected that.
