Masseria Gorgognolo

We have just returned from four nights at Masseria Gorgonola, and what a little gem it is. It is quite remote, so I would recommend hiring a car, but Ostuni, Locorotondo and Alberobello are all within a reasonable drive and we managed to visit each of them. That said, I was happiest at the Masseria itself. It has been beautifully restored and is rustic, simple and full of charm. Breakfast offered a good mix of continental and cooked options. Lunch featured three set dishes each day, alongside a small menu from which you could put together your own salad or lighter meal. Dinner was a set three-course menu, shared each morning so that guests could decide whether to dine in that evening. We ate there on three nights and loved it. With only a handful of rooms, the restaurant felt wonderfully peaceful and intimate - the most we saw dining at once was six people (including us). The food was beautiful, and it was a pleasure to enjoy the Puglian wine without having to think about driving anywhere afterwards. This is not a full-scale restaurant, so if you are looking for lots of choice and a lively atmosphere, you may prefer to head into town. For us, however, the small and intimate setting was perfect. We also loved the soft background music (and the style of it), which suited the surroundings beautifully. The outdoor space and pool were lovely, and the family who run the Masseria were incredible. Lucia was so helpful, offering recommendations on places to visit and restaurants to try. Nothing was too much trouble, and everyone was warm and welcoming. Their passion for the property really shines through. We started each day with a walk along the coast. It is largely rocky, although there are some small sandy coves which were lovely on calm days. We would then have breakfast before spending the morning by the pool. I would absolutely recommend Masseria Gorgonola to anyone looking for genuine rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of a busy hotel - we will return

Our experience was genuinely wonderful. The only small improvement I would suggest would be a request for guests not to make phone or video calls in the restaurant or around the pool. It only happened a couple of times and was not a major issue, but in such a peaceful setting, loud calls can be quite intrusive. This is, of course, more about guest consideration than any fault of the Masseria, although a gentle policy or reminder might help preserve the wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.

Lucia is really great. She's the best host ever. From arriving until leaving everything was perfectly cared for. The location, the masseria, the room and all it's decorations and accessories. Nothing left to ask for, everything was taken care of. Breakfast was great and lunch and dinner even better. All prepared with love.
