San Rocco Palace

San Rocco Palace is a B&B in the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. The room was spacious, very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated, with excellent lighting. The bathroom was also large and spotless. My window faced a quiet side street, so there was no noise at night. I received very clear check-in instructions in advance, and in the morning a tasty breakfast was brought to my room. Considering accommodation prices in Dubrovnik, this was very good value for money. One practical tip: Dubrovnik’s Old Town has lots of narrow streets and stairs, and you have to leave your car some distance away. I wouldn’t recommend bringing a suitcase. I took just one shoulder bag with everything I needed for the night, and it worked perfectly.

Just one small point: while the room had excellent lighting, the bathroom was a little too dark. A light above the mirror would make a big difference.

Stairs

The room was right in the centre of Dubrovnik, and was very large and decorated well, modern and well appointed. The bathroom was lovely and the shower excellent. There was a small kitchen if you wanted to make anything. The staff were lovely and breakfast was fabulous, and delivered to our room (although that is a walk from the main reception so hot food was cold).

There was cobwebs. The room we had was directly on the street and had virtually no natural light. It had one small window that had to be permanently closed otherwise passers buy could see in. Although it was up from the main street there was noise and people hanging out directly outside where you sleep, sitting on the steps. The bed was too soft which left us both with a bad back.

The location is very central, which is a plus, but it can also be quite noisy. The breakfast was good, but you have to order it the day before and you’re only given one small cup or tea or coffee

Be very careful when booking to check which room you’re actually getting. Based on the photos, we thought we had booked the room with the balcony, but instead we were given a very dark, damp room. We noticed the damp smell as soon as we arrived, and throughout our stay our clothes felt damp as well. There was no coffee machine, toaster or ironing facilities, despite these being listed as amenities. We were provided with just two fruit tea bags and some cheap sachet coffee, some bottled water would have been a nice touch.
