Bel & the Dragon at Red Lion Wendover

This is lovely hotel in the heart of Wendover. Lots of character. Our room was very well equipped, very comfy bed, hanging space and drawers, small fridge with complimentary milk and bottle of water, and even complimentary sloe gin! The bathroom was clean and shower was great. The room was quite warm but a fan was provided. The included breakfast had a buffet with fruit, yoghurt, croissants, meat, cheese etc, and a cooked breakfast was also available, which was great. There is lots of outside space with covered areas. We enjoyed our stay very much.

We stayed for a night at the Bel & Dragon in Wendover after a Chilterns walk along the Ridgeway from Princes Risborough. The pub was a lovely way to end the day - the room was very nice and we had a few drinks and great meal. It was the hottest day of the year, so understandably warm in the rooms, but there was a fan provided, which helped with the heat.

The only problem was that on the hottest weekend of the year the room did not have air conditioning. There was a Dyson fan which helped but it broke down on our second night but was replaced very quickly by a member of staff. The breakfast was excellent served by two young girls who couldn’t have been more helpful.

Great pub stay with fantastic walking links A really lovely spot. The hotel is attached to the pub, with some rooms in the main building and others in a side block connected by a covered walkway. The room was on the snug side, but spotlessly clean, tidy, and packed with character. The highlight? A refreshingly quirky welcome: sloe gins waiting in the room and a decanter of Jameson’s sitting on the window sill for a nightcap. Definitely not your average hotel setup, but a very welcome one! The pub itself is spacious and easily has the best atmosphere in the village (we stayed long enough to test every single one, purely for research purposes). Breakfast was superb—really set us up for the day. Location-wise, it couldn't be better. Both main circular walks from Wendover start right outside the front door, meaning we parked the car on arrival and didn't touch the keys again for three full days, dont get too close to Chequers though - seems Andy not very hospitable!. Nothing to fault at all—would happily stay again.
